It can be daunting to come into a new environment, having left your family home to move into a new place which you may share with other families. We have dedicated CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S PRACTITIONERS who will welcome the children and show them around the refuge and answer any questions they may have. Each child receives a welcome bag, which is placed in their bedroom and we ensure that they are aware that we are there to support them throughout their journey.
Children and young people are given access to a range of activities and groups while living in the refuge, to help them feel safe and live a life free from violence and abuse. For example art therapy, specialist counselling, a pre-school in the Basildon refuge, and trips out.
Mothers are also given support to repair the damage that can be done to the parent-child relationship as a result of domestic abuse.
