Getting ready for Christmas
It’s December 2019 and Christmas plans are getting in full swing. Unfortunately, for the survivors that we work with it can be a time of great sadness.
As we run refuges and move-on accommodation we have many women and children who have left/fled their homes and the areas that they are from, leaving behind their family and friends.
At this time of year, our local supporters ask how they can help us. Practical donations can be one way to show your support at this time of year. Donations of food (that will keep) such as pasta, rice, sauces and toiletries such as deodorant, shower gel etc. are necessary items that we give to the individuals that we support.
Many of the children of in our refuges have had to leave their school and friends behind after living through the experience of domestic abuse. It takes so much courage to leave and often they have little or no access to money as many of them have subjected to financial abuse and then they need money to buy clothes, food, presents etc.
Basics that we take for granted such as books are not something you pack when you flee your home. We have just received books (bought off our Amazon wish list) from a kind donor. The book is written by Malala Yousafzai Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and is called “Malala: My Story of Standing up for Girls rights”. A huge thank you to our donor for sending such an insightful and inspirational book during the #16Days of Activism.
On Christmas day our refuge residents will come together in their shared kitchens to cook their Christmas dinner and try and maintain some sense of normality. We work with our fantastic supporters to provide Christmas presents for our children in the refuges and those we support in the community.
If you would like to make a donation, please call us on 01268 727797 or email: email@example.com. We welcome new gifts at Christmas time due to limited storage space.
If you would like to donate to Changing Pathways we can use this money to provide counselling sessions, travel cards and supermarket vouchers, you can do this by visiting our Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/basildon-womensaid
